My life of aquaculture From Nakagami's Farm

【Nursery introduction 】 I cultivate three kinds of shellfishes in Japan sea, Oki Islands located in Shimane Peninsular offing, Urago bay of the secondly inside big Nishinoshima island.Young shellfishes is a thing by artificial feritilization (I bring up about 1 mm in a tank now) entirely, they eat natural bait after hanging down to a marine institution and become big. These kinds of shellfishes called Itayagai,Hiougigai,Iwagaki . Temperature of seawater changing by 11 degrees - around 25 degrees somehow. And coral seems to grow up by a place, too.Anyway because it is a remote island, there is not a big river, and seawater is clean really. There is hardly a colon bacillus in a port with a workshop in an area of sea of a nursery.I think from now on when will want to pick up a photograph of Oki changing every a season, a nursery and a photograph of a shellfish, an event.

My life of aquaculture from Nakagami's Shell Farm
【Introduction of my Nursery】I cultivate three kinds of shellfishes, Itayagai (Japanese Baking Scallop), Hiougigai (Noble Scallop), and Iwagaki (Rock Oyster) in Japan. My shell farm is located at Urago Bay in Nishinoshima of Oki Islands, off Shimane Peninsula. Young shellfishes or spat are produced entirely by artificial fertilization and I bring them up to about 1 mm shell size, feeding cultured phytoplankton, in tanks in the workshop on land. Next, they are moved to the nursery sea area where they can eat natural plankton for food to grow big, while being kept in baskets hanging down from buoys. Seawater temperatures vary from 11 degrees in winter to around 25 degrees in summer. It is so warm that some corals seem to grow nearby. Because this is a small island located away from the mainland, and because there is no big river, seawater is truly clean. There is hardly any colon bacillus in seawater around my nursery. From now on, I would like to show photographs, changing seasonally, of my nursery, shellfishes and so forth, as well as some interesting events and sceneries of beautiful islands of Oki.
