- Details of The Exhibition
Insho Domoto, who played an active role in Japanfs art world during the Taisho and Showa eras, moved dramatically from figurative painting, based on Oriental classics, to abstraction, after World War II.

Insho Domoto passionately painted landscapes of European cities in parallel with Japanese natural scenery such as mountains, rivers, valleys, and woods.

His diverse modes of expression convey a wet atmosphere using ink, or the sense of light in bright colors.

A number of sketches drawn on site were part of an indispensable process to complete a final work.
This exhibition will show these sketches along with a variety of landscapes selected from his works.

We hope you will see his interest in landscapes through his expressions of cities and nature.

A small selection:
Insho's Paintings of Shinto and Buddhist Deities

The small selection will show Insho's sketches and paintings related to deities which he had worked on throughout his life.
Insho was devout his whole life, and this faith motivated him in creating religious paintings. We hope you enjoy his various depictions of Shinto and Buddhist deities.
